Savor Saperavi! Join us for Saperavi Weekend and sample six Saperavi wines crafted in four different styles. McGregor Vineyard is synonymous with Saperavi in the United States and for decades, was its only producer. Indeed, McGregor Vineyard is the home of American-crafted Saperavi!
What do you know about Saperavi? Saperavi is an ancient grape variety from the Kakheti region of Georgia, where the world’s very first wines were produced. McGregor Vineyard founder Bob McGregor planted the vineyard’s first Saperavi in 1980 – he soon realized that it was a special wine grape with great promise for the Finger Lakes. His belief in this varietal was met with skepticism for years throughout the region’s wine industry.
Eventually, McGregor Vineyard’s continuous experimentation with Saperavi paid off, and the varietal began to take hold in the region. More recently, many are planting the grape and are excitedly showcasing their own Saperavi wines. A Saperavi movement is taking place, and its great potential as a premium winemaking grape is now undeniable. Bob was extremely proud to see this growing from something he started so long ago.
Our Saperavi Weekend event features a flight of six different McGregor Saperavi wines. Each of these wines is carefully selected to represent one of our four distinct Saperavi production styles: Stainless Steel/Unoaked, One-Year Oak-Aged, Reserve (2+ Year Oak-Aged), and Grand Reserve (3+ Year Oak-Aged). Your reservation also includes a sample of a well-aged “Library” selection as well as a plate of various palate-pleasers to complement the wines. All wines presented have event-only price discounts during this special event.
