2017 Saperavi
Library Wine Selection
McGregor Saperavi: America's first success with Saperavi. McGregor Vineyard began producing its first Saperavi in 1985. Saperavi is an ancient wine grape originally from the country of Georgia. This estate grown and produced Saperavi was aged in oak barrels for one year. It has intense aromas and flavors of black currants and blackberries along with hints of earth, spice, and oak. While enjoyable in its youth, this wine will age nicely for many years.
What's ancient is new again. Saperavi is a wine grape originally from the country of Georgia, where some of the very first wines in the world were created. McGregor Vineyard began producing its first Saperavi in 1985, a wine which later became Black Russian Red with the addition of another grape, Sereksiya Charni, along with some additional time aging in oak.
We have made wine with this expressive varietal every year since 1985 - most notably our Black Russian Red. While McGregor Vineyard has been growing Saperavi for nearly 40 years, this is the first label to bear the Saperavi name in over three decades.
