2016 Unoaked Chardonnay

Library Selection

A total of 7.7 tons of clean, ripe, estate grown grapes were harvested by hand on October 27-28, 2016. They had 22.4 brix residual sugar, 0.56 TA, and a 3.37 pH. The grapes were de-stemmed, crushed, cold soaked overnight and then pressed. The juice was inoculated with yeast and cold fermented for 21 days at 55-56 degrees. The wine was cold and heat stabilized and then filtered and bottled on April 2-3, 2017. The finished wine has 0.50 TA, a 3.50 pH, 12.3% alcohol and 0% residual sugar. 413 cases produced.

This pale straw colored wine is bursting with aromatics of crisp apple, pear, wet stone and a hint of lemon. It is clean, fresh and bursting with these aromatics on the palate. This light to medium bodied wine has intense citrus and mineral character underlain with great texture. It is truly one of our finest Unoaked Chardonnays ever and is delicious now but will develop beautifully at least until 2022. Enjoy with Cornell grilled chicken, broiled lobster, soft cheeses and on its own as a perfect everyday wine.

I've shied away from Chardonnay for a number of years, dunno why. But this clan bottle caught my attention. It has a nice strong, clean aroma that I would call Appleish. There's a nice strong bite to the very pleasant mouthful. (I've never been strong on sophisticated wine descriptions, and that's the best I can do) Like this neat clean wine a lot.
